OWSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ahoy ladies!

What an wonderful turnout we had at our first General Meeting of the year! With 44 ladies in attendance, I noticed a lot of smiles while we learned all about the OWSA Race program scheduled for this year.

A gigantic thank you goes out to all of our incredible volunteers who make the magic happen in OWSA as well as to everyone who was able to join us last month. If you're interested in learning to race on the Columbia and haven't signed up yet, there are still a few seats open so log in to www.owsa.net to register for your spot in the Race Clinic today.

I am thrilled to further announce that we have found workable solutions for many of the challenges we faced last year.  Therefore, as we start gearing up for the Wednesday Night Sailing season, we hope you will join us at our next General Meeting on March 10, to find out what the ladies of OWSA Education have in store for you this year.

Sail on!

MARCH GENERAL MEETING

Wednesday, March 10th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Please plan to attend the General Meeting on Wednesday, March 10th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. At this meeting, the Boast Chair will announce the 12 OWSA members who will participate in the BOAST (Boat Owner & Skipper Training Program) program for the next two years. One of the benefits of belonging to OWSA is the unique opportunity to co-own an OWSA fleet sailboat at a very reasonable rate with a great return! Participants will be able to increase their sailing ability and skippering skills as they grow their confidence on the water. New participants and new additions to the program will be presented by Mel Cearlock, the BOAST Chair.

Our Education Director, Carol Baker, will present upcoming educational opportunities that will increase your sailing knowledge. There will be some new offerings and some tried and true classics such as Cool Maneuvers for boat handling and docking that you will want to learn about. A new class is also being developed on the topic of cruising. The class offerings for the rest of the year will be discussed by Carol. You will not want to miss this engaging meeting!!

NEED TO EDIT

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Let's give three cheers for Robyn Vandever, our NEW Wednesday Night Sail Coordinator!

Robyn was born in southern California where she fell in love with the ocean.  She grew up near the water, visiting the beach often.

Robyn moved to Portland in 2015 to be near family.  She did not discover the wonders of sailing until 2018 when she went on our first outing with OWSA and she fell in love with the water all over again.

She is eager to start working with each of you and our community skippers as we get ready for the Wednesday Night Sailing season and we are extremely lucky that she has decided to share her time and skills with us.

Thank you, Robyn for joining OWSA's team!

PINK LEMONADE PROJECT

Local, passionate breast cancer fighting organizations, including Oregon Women’s Sailing Association (OWSA), in a show of solidarity, turned the Morrison Bridge PINK in honor of February’s National Cancer Awareness Month. The Morrison Bridge was lit pink starting on Valentine’s Day, February 14th until February 21st. Since large-scale events cannot be held right now, the goal is to show a very visual reminder about the importance of breast health, screening mammograms, support programs, financial assistance for treatment, and local breast cancer research.

Thank you to the great work of the Susan Stearns and the Pink Lemonade Project and check out their website to learn more about the work they are doing!

A new committee is forming to market the club and grow community participation.  Join this committee for monthly 1 hour virtual meetings where we will brainstorm ideas for future events to increase club visibility & participation.

These activities might include sailing as a fundraiser, building a boat for OWSA, bingo nights, pirate parties, sailing games on the water,  and whatever you might think of. We will review old club activities for future ideas.

If interested, please contact marketing@owsa.net
