OWSA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hey my sweet, fun-loving sailing sisters!
This month, I'd like to talk a bit about anxiety.
Anxiety is a poisonous seed, causing unnecessary tension in the body. It causes pain, inflammation and clutter in the mind. When we're anxious, the underlying emotion is actually fear. When we're in fear, it can be hard to think clearly through any issue that faces us.
It's nice to check in on internal anxiety levels every once in a while to find out what's going on within us in a logical fashion and work to make peace with any issues inside so we can be at peace with ourselves. This allows us to take charge of any challenging situation ahead. Taking a deep breath or two and having a simple conversation with ourselves is usually all it takes!
So, whether it's starting up an outboard, leaving a slip...or even if you find yourself stuck on a sandbar, try to check in with that anxiety or fear and find trust in the moment. We are empowered by trust and the trust in ourselves will guide us freely through any of life's challenges.
Happy sailing ladies - see you out there!
Commodore Jen | GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday, May 12th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
It is finally here!! The meeting you have been waiting for!!…Come meet our incredible volunteer Skippers who participate with their personal boats to host the Wednesday Night Sails (WNS)!! Introducing both the skipper and their boat is an annual event held every May at the OWSA general meeting. Wednesday Night Sail is the foundation to the mission of OWSA – to get women out on the water. OWSA members are able to learn and practice key crewing and sailing skills. Without our skippers our program could not be as successful. We owe our success to their generous contribution of their meaningful time, energy, and boat usage.
At this meeting we will also honor a long time WNS skipper who will be retiring. You will not want to miss this uniquely special and creative tribute hosted by Carisa Bohus. You will not want to miss this engaging meeting!

| VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Let's extend a warm welcome to Sally DeWitt as our Merchandise Coordinator extraordinaire! Whether you want a fleece, hat, burgee or jacket, Sally's got you covered!
For the past 4 years that Sally has called Portland home, she has been spending that time figuring out what outdoor adventures she's into. She grew up swimming competitively, taught lessons, life guarded, and stayed in and around the water - swimming, canoeing, tubing, skiing, everything.
Even with that, once she moved to Portland, sailing seemed like an out of reach sport to get into. Last summer she was introduced to sailing through a friend who suggested I check out OWSA and we are so glad she did! In her free time, you can find her hiking, skiing, relaxing around the water or trying to coax her cats into taking a walk.
Thanks, Sally, for your effortless volunteerism with OWSA!

These activities might include sailing as a fundraiser, building a boat for OWSA, bingo nights, pirate parties, sailing games on the water, and whatever you might think of. We will review old club activities for future ideas.

| RACE WEEK - ANACORTES, WA June 21-25
Are you ready to get back out on the water!? COVID concerns are real, and it's great news that so many people in our region have received their vaccinations. Whether we're in Phase 2 or Phase 3, we'll be racing at Race Week! Everyone will be asked to mask up on the docks, and those experiencing any symptoms of COVID will be asked to stay clear. It is very likely that the traditional tent party will have to wait it out a year, but the current plan is to have the bar open at Anacortes Yacht Club for Happy Hour and daily awards following the racing each day. The good news is that Anacortes is full of great bars and restaurants that will be COVID compliant, and will be excited to welcome Race Week participants to town!
